As the Christmas period is coming up and the temperature outside continues to drop, the use of food-banks are increasing.
More than 600,000 people are likely to need the support of food banks between December and February, according to the Trussell Trust.
Beryl Bellew, the co-founder of the St Andrew’s Church foodbank, North Liverpool said: “We’ve ran out of food.”
The volunteer of over 12 years claimed they have never ran out before however, the lack of food on their shelves’ meant people were unfortunately left with no food over the weekend.
Do you think the use in foodbanks has increased?
Yes!
No!
A BBC article, focused on the current struggles with Liverpool, claimed that Merseyside food and toy banks are struggling, as their demand doubles in numbers.
The shock of reality isn't settling in with locals and businesses in the city. L6 Community Centre struggled to express how "shocked" they were at the soaring demand for food and toys this year, as well as the drop in donations due to the cost of living crisis.
Carl Getdy, 70, moved back to Liverpool from New Zealand a year ago. He voiced how he isn't surprised by the volume of people turning to foodbanks.
He said: “Liverpool is one of the most socially and economically deprived cities in England.”
Merseyside is full of charities and donation banks ready to help all those in need, including the Shoebox Full of Love Homeless Appeal.
They have raised a request for all those who can donate gifts for vulnerable men, women, children, and animals across the region.
The founders of the appeal, Vorny, Sarah and Lauren, said: “We’ve had more requests for help this year than we have before, but we’re still short and homelessness is off the scale.”
The final day of their appeal is today. They have drop off locations in: Bebington, Birkenhead, Childwall, Formby, Liscard, Old Swan, Penny Lane, Prescot, Tarbock Green/ Huyton and Vauxhall.

The founder stated on a facebook post that they are overwhelmed by the support.
They said: “Thank you so much for your continued support, we are astonished that we have made it to a decade of kindness, and we cannot wait to see what you beautiful people do this year.”
