With summer ending and more rainy days ahead, perhaps you’re struggling to find ways of keeping occupied. Never fear, here’s 7 exciting ideas for things to do in Liverpool that won’t be hindered by the bad weather.

Quirky Quarter

A day out unlike anything you’ve ever seen, the Quirky Quarter is an illusion museum brimming with exhibits bound to excite adults and children alike. Upside down rooms, a virtual haircut and an endless maze of mirrors are just some of the mind bending visuals on offer here. A fully interactive experience with tons of photo opportunities, this is a must for families, couples and groups looking for something different to the tired tourist spots.

Arcades

There’s been on an explosion of the adult arcade market in Liverpool over recent years and gamers are spoiled for choice. ArCains offers all your old-school classics like Pac-man, Street Fighter and Donkey-Kong, as well as gaming PC’s set up to play more modern titles. For those looking to step into the realm of VR, VR-HERE is a playground for Virtual Reality gaming with a dizzying selection of immersive games to chose from. There’s also NQ64, a lovingly decorated arcade/bar situated underground with cocktails and draft beer, as well as all your favourites available to play.

Red-Brick Market

Situated in the Baltic Triangle in what was previously the Cains Brewery, the Red-Brick market is a great way to spend an afternoon perusing some interesting wares you’re unluckily to find anywhere else. Described as Liverpool’s answer to Camden Market, this is a unique retail experience with over 100 traders under one roof. There’s antiques, curiosities, artwork, knick-knacks, furniture; there’s really no telling what you might be lucky enough to find here. It’s also become the adoptive home of some former residents of Grand Central Market (known locally as ‘Quiggins’) so you can also get your favourite band t-shirts here!

Phase One

Phase One Liverpool is a rare gem that not only functions as Liverpool’s largest record store, but also an intimate music venue, a bar and a cafe. Here you can find some of your favourite vinyl on sale, with knowledgeable members of staff who are both passionate and knowledgeable. The barista quality coffee is a perfect accompaniment to a good dig through the selection that includes local as well as international artists. And if you’re lucky enough to catch a gig in there just sit back and enjoy the ambience.

Frankie’s Pottery

Those with an artistic inclination might be tempted by Frankie’s Pottery on Smithdown Road. This a relaxing way to spend an afternoon with a friend or date, where you get to paint your very own ceramic masterpiece. You can chose from mugs, plant pots, ornaments, decorations and loads more so you can really flex your creativity. There’s also drinks available to buy so you don’t get too thirsty while you’re painting away. Frankie’s comes highly recommended from all who’ve been, a therapeutic day of arts and crafts with your own hand painted souvenir at the end.

Ninja Warrior UK

Athletes looking to prove themselves look no further than Ninja Warrior Liverpool. Inspired by the popular ITV show, this is an obstacle course that will test your climbing, balancing and swinging skills to the limit. Featuring the new Mount Sasuke climbing tower and slide, there’s something for all ages here. Even for the little ones; the Mini Ninjas soft play sessions allow children aged 0-3 a chance to experience the fun in a safe environment. Make sure to book in advance.

Museums and Galleries

And lastly, a list of things to do in Liverpool wouldn’t be complete without a mention of the city’s museums and art galleries. The Museum of Liverpool is currently holding an exhibition on one of Merseyside’s most favoured sons, Ken Dodd, as well as a display on Liverpool’s anti-apartheid activities in the 80’s. And the World Museum is never not a fun day out, with a fascinating selection of exhibits guaranteed to delight the whole family. If that wasn’t enough, it’s only a stones throw from Central Library and the gorgeous Picton Reading Room (just remember, absolute silence for this one!)
