South Liverpool Surveyor take a stroll down Lark Lane and find themselves in a restaurant filled with colour, nostalgic interior and affordable prices.
It was such a reflective atmosphere and it brought back so many memories. I was sitting there tucking into my chicken and chips, not forgetting the chilli ketchup, feeling like I was sitting on a stool back at my primary school canteen. You know the ones, the shipping container across from the school that was set up as 'temporary use'. Yet the bar and the gorgeous light shades made me feel like I was back at my nans' pub. It's so peculiar what a little restaurant at the top of Lark Lane can do.
Autumn is finally making an appearance and the bitter, cold air wasn't holding back today. Walking down Lark Lane with my arms froze to the side of my torso, I rushed to find salvation in desperate need of a hot drink.
Milo Lounge is where we decided to go and they had a big enough menu to choose from, which was amazing for picky ol' me. As we walked in the waiter was on us straight away, giving us the kindest smiles and asking if we had any allergies or if we were veggie/vegan.
The service from the bar staff, waiters and food runners was fantastic. They were so helpful and accommodating to all of my queries. It seemed like Milo Lounge is a really friendly environment and enjoyable for those who work there.
We were given a table in the window, how lucky of us, and here we are ready to choose from the huge menu. Decisions, decisions, decisions. It must have taken me at least 20 minutes to decide, but I finally ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Chilli Ketchup and a regular Diet Coke.

I can't say that I would have this dish again, it just wasn't up to my liking. The fries, coleslaw and ketchup dip were lovely however, it was the chicken breast that sadly let it down. The menu describes the chicken to be 'lightly spiced', but I couldn't taste any flavour apart from the oil that was dripping from the meat and had created a puddle underneath, turning my crispy chicken into soggy chicken.
Milo Lounge is a part of a branch called Lounges which was founded in 2002 by a friendship trio: Jake Bishop, Dave Reid and Alex Reilley. They each had plenty of experience in the hospitality trade and decided that 'it was time they did their own thing.' They describe their motivation to be simple and very selfish; they wanted somewhere to drink themselves. Their first venue was an empty opticians on North Street, Bristol, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last August.
Milo Lounge didn't exactly give me the autumnal vibes I was seeking, but it was an escape from reality and flashback in time to comfort of my childhood.
Would I visit Milo Lounge again?
In all honesty, yes. I would give the lounge a second attempt because everyone deserves a fair chance and they had a rather vast majority of cocktails that I would love to try. However I wouldn't have the same meal again, it was likely a 'one-off mistake'. We all have bad days in the kitchen, so maybe I'll try something different.
